Hi, my name is Sam Alder.

I am an Industrial Designer living and working as a colonial settler on Unceded Coast Salish Territories (sometimes called Vancouver, BC)
My research is about exploring a socially, technologically and ecologically effective way to stop the spread of invasive Himalayan Blackberry in the Pacific Northwest. I achieve this by developing processes to separate and convert parts of the plant into useful and beautiful materials for furniture, home goods and interior decoration.
Another goal of this project is to lock away atmospheric carbon into locally manufactured goods. Each kilogram of dry plant material is grown from approximately 1.8 kilograms of atmospheric CO2).
